London, 1884. Frederick Treves, a surgeon, discovers a disfigured and misshapen man turned into a freak show at a fair. Impressed by such deformities, Dr Treves buys John Merrick, the ‘Monster’ he thinks an inborn idiot. He quickly discovers in Merrick a bruised and intelligent man, endowed with great sensibility.

David Lynch
As a fine arts student, David Lynch tries his hand early at cinema. Following the success of his first feature film Eraserhead (1977), Mel Brooks asks him to produce Elephant Man. Nominated in eight different categories for the Academy Awards, the movie propels his career. After Dune (1985) and the very controversial Blue Velvet (1986), he receives the Palme d’Or in 1990 for Wild at Heart, becoming in the same time a pop phenomenon with the Twin Peaks series. After deserting the film sets, he returns with the disturbing Lost Highway (1997), Mulholland Drive (Best Director Award in Cannes, 2001) and more recently, Inland Empire (2006).
