In order to make a present to his daughter, Belle’s father unknowingly plucks a rose belonging to the Beast’s garden, offending the latter. In order to save her father, Belle accepts to stay at the Beast’s castle.

Jean Cocteau
Born in 1889 in Maisons-Laffitte, Jean Cocteau has become renowned during his life in various literary and artistic fields such as poetry, painting, cinema, theatre or ballet. A great character of the 1920 Avant-Garde, he works along people like Erik Satie, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Proust or André Gide to promote new art forms. All the while writing poems, essays and novels (Les Enfants terriblesthe Holy Terrors, 1929 ; Œdipe RoiOedipus Rex, 1928,…), he starts a career in cinema in 1930 and produces several movies, among them Sang d’un poète (The Blood of a Poet, 1930), La Belle et la Bête (Beauty and the Beast, 1946) and Orphée (Orpheus,1950).
