Hayao Miyazaki
As a talented artist passionate about comics, Hayao Miyazaki starts his career in animation in 1963. He works on Hols, Prince of the Sun (1968) then on the series Heidi, Girl of the Alps before producing the series Future Boy Conan (1978). He produces his own feature film in 1979 : The Castle of Cagliostro. The success of his next film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) enables Miyazaki and two of his colleagues, Takahata and Kotabe, to found the Ghibli animation studio. His movies often put great emphasis on beauty and nature. Many of them have become cult films : My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001) and the recent Ponyo (2008).
