Peasants in the State of Maharashtra are driven to despair by the condition of their crops and they wait in vain for the rain to fall. Increasing numbers of forlorn farmers are driven to suicide. Kisna, father of a six year-old boy works relentlessly to try to support his family. His wife, persuaded that her husband also wants to put an end to his own life is on the look-out for the slightest sign of her husband’s resignation.

Despite the apparent harshness of its subject-matter The Damned Rain is a lively film whose story is at times humorous and includes occasional Bollywood-inspired musical interludes.
