In 1970s Argentina, Ceci, a 7 year-old girl, shares a dark secret with her mother though she is still to young to understand its meaning. They live together in a secluded house on the edge of the ocean. One day, the young girl unwittingly endangers herself when the army asks the students in her school to write a letter glorifying the military.
Born in Bueños Aires, Paula Markovitch began her career as a screenplay writer for the Mexican director Fenando Eimbcke in Temporada de Patos and Lake Tahoe, and she also worked with Carlos Carrera on Sin Remittente. Whilst simultaneously working in cinema, radio and theatre she also directed two short films. El Premio is her first feature film and attached much attention at the 2011 Berlinale festival.
