Yacine is a vet in the last remaining zoo in Palestine. His 10 year- old son Ziad spends time with the animals and especially with the two giraffes. One night, after an airstrike on the city, the male giraffe dies. The female cannot live alone and lets herself die. Yacine must find a new companion for her immediately.
Rani Massalha was born in Paris, the son of an Egyptian mother and a Palestinian father. He studied politics in Paris and Boston before getting his first job in London, in finances. At the age of 25, he turned to cinema and became an assistant producer in Cairo, in Youssef Chahine’s company, and worked on the film Outside the Law (2010) by Rachid Bouchareb. Two years later, he directed his first short film, Elvis of Nazareth, which was awarded the Prix du Jury Unifrance in Cannes in 2012. Ahmed Bayatra, the young actor of the film, also starred in his first feature film, Girafada, which was released in France in 2014.
