Salzburg, 1938. The fanciful Maria is about to become a nun. Her love for music and mountains, her enthusiasm and her general lack of discipline worry the abbey’s sisters. They offer her to become a maid for the captain Georg von Trapp, a widow who raises his seven children in a very strict manner.

Robert Wise

Born in 1914 in Indiana, Wise migrates to California following the 1929 crisis and becomes sound editor and image editor for the RKO studios. He edits several films and makes a name for himself with Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1940). He starts directing with The Curse of the Cat People (1943) and makes several feature films, including The Set-up (1949), Critic Prize in Cannes, and I want to Live ! in 1958. In 1961, he produces and co-directs the eleven-Oscar musicals West Side Story. He brings another success in 1965 with The Sound of Music, an adaptation of Maria Augusta Trapp’s novel. He distinguishes himself again with very diverse films such as The Sand Pebbles (1966), Two People (1973) and Star Trek : The Motion Picture (1979). He dies in 2005 in Los Angeles.
