Axel Scheffler and Julia Donaldson
Born in 1957 in Hambourg, the illustrator Axel Scheffler first studied and then moved to England. Since graduating in French and Theatre at the University of Bristol, Julia Donaldson has devoted herself to writing poetry, songs, and children’s stories in verse. They began working together when Axel illustrated one of Julia’s songs A Squash and a Squeeze. They have since worked together regularly and their book The Gruffalo, published in 1999 has been translated into more than 20 languages.
