Victor Fleming

Born in 1883 in California, Flemming enters the cinema industry in 1910 as an operating assistant, then as a director of photography for Griffith in 1915. Back in America following the First World War, he starts directing in 1920. After being nominated for an Oscar for best film in 1927 with The Way of All Flesh, he explores all the cinematic genres with Red Dust (1932), Treasure Island (1934) before being given the task of directing The Wizard of Oz (1939), which brings Judy Garland to fame. His career reaches its peak with the eponymous adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel, Gone with the wind, earning him eight Oscar in 1940.
